I would like to say something about my improvisations. It has taken a few years for people to understand and believe the inexplicable mystery of free improvisation, which is what I do and have always done since a very young child. I would like to make clear that every piece on this record was created on the spot, based on themes that are well known of the Baroque period, and every free improvisation was born without any influence of an external theme.
They are all improvisations because they arose out of the same white void that I inhabit when I do this, and I cannot stress enough how the process that these improvisations go through (and myself!) are as much a puzzle to me as they are to everyone who asks me, "How do you do it?".
The value in this music is that it is created without thought and that what leads me is pure inspiration and not formulas or patterns. Where does it come from? What am I connected to?
I do not know, and I think I prefer it that way. This way I keep that innocence that trusts and gives itself to the process. Without going further into this subject, which could lead to diverse and complex discussions, I would like to state that it is an absolute joy to see the involvement of the public at my concerts. I do hope that bringing this element to the classical stage will remind us of the freedom and disembodiment that was always shared and promoted by the great composers of the past when they allowed themselves to "just fly".
